ART GALLERY

My approach to making art is deeply rooted in storytelling, connection, and exploration of identity. I am inspired by the experiences, values, and cultures that have shaped my family and my perspective on the world. Through my work, I aim to represent the beauty of diversity, honor my heritage, and reflect on the complex layers of identity and community. I am inspired by the challenge of translating emotions and stories into visual language, combining techniques and mediums to communicate meaningful ideas. Whether exploring personal narratives, celebrating diversity, or addressing societal issues, I strive to create work that invites reflection, connection, and dialogue. Each piece in this portfolio represents a piece of who I am, my values, and the world as I see it.

COLLECTIONS

INTERWOVEN WORLDS

Interwoven Worlds is a collection of pieces that delve into the tapestry of my family's culture and history, focusing on the connections, adaptations, and resilience that define our identity. Each piece tells a story of how tradition and modernity coexist, how migration has shaped our perspectives, and how the strength of family bonds perseveres through time and space. Thread serves as a unifying element throughout many pieces of this series, symbolizing the intricate ties that weave my family together across generations, geographical distances, and cultural shifts. Through this collection, I aim to celebrate the beauty of interconnectedness while honoring the challenges of my family's journey.

How I See the World is a collection that reflects my perspective as an artist, celebrating the beauty in all people. My mosaic style allows individuals of all backgrounds to see themselves in my work, emphasizing inclusivity and connection. Much of my work highlights the beauty of cultures, with each fragment and color representing the unique qualities that make up every person. Through this collection, I aim to create art that is both representative and unifying, encouraging viewers to see themselves and others in a shared experience of humanity.

COLLABORATIVE PROJECT: TEXAS COLLABORATIVE FOR HEALTHY MOTHERS AND BABIES

This piece is very special to me. I was asked by leaders of the Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers and Babies (TCHMB) to create an original artwork to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Texas state perinatal quality collaborative. In Texas, women of color experience worse maternal health outcomes compared to their White counterparts. TCHMB aims to improve the health of all mothers and their babies in Texas. I worked closely with a communications expert and a graphic designer to develop an image and branding to mark the celebration based on my original painting. The final products included conference tote bags, prints, and large-scale banners placed on the speakers' podium. The conference took place in Austin, Texas on February 15-17, 2023, with over 450 people attending from Texas and around the country. A print ended up being in the background of a 60-minute video on access to abortion in Texas (fast-forward to 6:25 to see the artwork). Based on this experience, I want to pursue collaborative projects that are meaningful and make a positive impact.

VESSELS

Outside of my nonprofit, PotteryForAPurpose, I also focus on creating unique handbuilt vessels. I utilize various techniques, including sgraffito, slab building, coil building, and raku firing, to bring my ideas to life. Each piece reflects my exploration of form, texture, and surface design. Here are a few examples of my work.
