ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mira Patel is an emerging multimedia artist, journalist, and entrepreneur. Her work incorporates a broad range of artistic forms including painting, ceramics, graphic design, and textiles. Deeply connected to her heritage, Mira creates pieces bridging traditional and contemporary practices. Mira’s work invites viewers to reflect on their own stories while appreciating the beauty of diverse experiences. She continues to develop her craft with a focus on experimentation and storytelling, aiming to make meaningful contributions to the art world. Mira’s work has been recognized at the international, national, state, and regional levels.

Mira serves as Page Design Editor for The Shield, McCallum High School’s Journalism Program, where she oversees design for both print and digital publications. Mira was a two-time finalist in the International Contest for Writing, Photo, and Multimedia (Quill & Scroll, 2024) for Beginning Designer/Artist and In-Depth Reporting/Team Writing. Nationally, she earned 1st place in the Clips & Clicks Contest (National Student Press Association, 2024) for front page design and contributed to her school’s 4th place Sweepstakes Award for The Shield. Additionally, she received a Best of SNO Award for a feature video on her high school’s Battle of the Bands. At the state level, Mira was recognized with multiple Superior and Excellent ratings by the Texas Association of Journalism Educators (2024) and won five individual achievement awards at the UIL Interscholastic League Press Conference. Regionally, Mira placed 5th in the UIL Expository Writing competition.

Mira’s work has been celebrated in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards (2024), earning a Gold Key for her Prismacolor drawing “American Dream” and an Honorable Mention for her mixed media piece “Ageless.” She also received top awards for Original Artwork and Design at the Texas Association of Journalism Educators and continues to represent her school as a selected Ambassador for the McCallum High School Fine Arts Academy.
In October 2024, Mira started a nonprofit business called PotteryForAPurpose, which aims to use art for the greater good. In her business model, 100% of proceeds from PotteryForAPurpose sales is donated to an Austin-based charitable organization (Casa Marianella) that supports self-sufficiency by providing shelter and support services for displaced immigrants.

Mira hopes to enrich the lives of others through art by fostering connections and sparking meaningful conversations. She is passionate about using her creativity to address themes of identity, culture, and social change, aiming to inspire others to explore their own stories. As she continues to grow as an artist, journalist, and entrepreneur, Mira aspires to make lasting contributions to the art world and the broader community, leaving a positive impact through her work.
